Dear John Blogger

I remember our first night together. We were introduced by a mutual friend over a low country boil. The Tybee Island sun was setting and my head was light with spirits. I was so young and naive. The summer of 2001 was smack dab in the middle of the salad years. A blog? Never heard of such a thing.

But such as it is over shrimp, beer, and friendly conversation, I was lured into a relationship with you. They were scarce times for our kind of relationship. It seemed at the time that you were my only option. Over time, as I looked longingly at others, you made me believe I couldn’t survive without you. You treated me badly. At the times I most needed you, you disappeared.

I remember when you said you would get better. Google took you under its wings. I hoped it would make you better. After seven years, though, I’ve learned. We were only together because I didn’t believe I could survive without your support. Today I realized how dense I’ve been.

Sure, it took help and the encouragement of friends. No one can do something like this alone. Regardless, today, I say goodbye to you, Blogger.

Did you find the migration amazingly easy? I was stunned at how simple it was.

Always on my wish list: WordPress credits.

    RJ–

Did I find it easy? Well, yeah, but only because I paid someone to do it for me. As a guy who was with Blogger since 2001 (before so many of the complicatd changes that make importing easy) saving my layout and getting the import right was pretty complicated. Fortunately, I found a smart guy who was able to get it done in just a couple of days for me. I’m already more than a little happy about the move.
