Lone survivor

Today was a hike on nearby Paris Mountain. I alternated between leading the charge and lagging behind to look a little closer of the texture of the outdoors. One thing that held my interest for a little longer than normal was a dead tree covered in gray and brittle pine cones. Among the cones, one stood out. Despite being just as dead as the others, it looked as if it had some life left to it, like it might rise from the gray death and turn into something of worth. I called him the lone survivor.
