Empty and hoping

No need to wax nostalgic. If you are a New Orleans lover as I am, you’re thinking the same thing.

Let’s talk this time tomorrow and hope it’s a good conversation.

Looking out from Tropical Isle to an empty French Quarter, January 2008, eight months before Hurricane Gustav

McCain tears up script. True concern or bravado?

  2. McCain = braggadocio–riding on Bush tails.

  3. The politicians should be rolling up their sleeves and pitching in rather than skying out of town.

  4. Pitching in means they have more assets and connections. They can use these however they wish.

  5. Imagine, though, if McCain were POTUS, rolled up his sleeves and were injured. Palin would be POTUS. Could she handle it?

  6. He wouldn’t be injured, though. He wouldn’t be there. It’s all silly and plastic. I want to puke.

  7. And where the Hell is Obama in all this? He seemingly hasn’t said a word. Damn. Disgusted.

  9. They need to get some of the humongous military transport planes in there to get the regular people out. Send the politicians on Airforce 1.

  10. Much ado about nothing. Just looked at projections. Looking for lows and highs. Doesn’t seem G. and H. will meet in Atlantic.

  11. Low pressure systems suck storms in and high pressure systems push them off.

  12. Hannah may come between SC and GA as a tropical storm. Gustav may hit land as a lesser storm and veer left sharply. Pressure funky pressures

  13. Gustav more than likely will be a hurricane, just on a lesser scale than expected.

I take it your opinion wouldn’t be flattering. Is that supposed to affect me somehow?

“Working for international clients on a distinctly American holiday blows.”

At least you have your wife and boy and will now be able to afford the ribs, or what have you, that you all will cook this evening. Doesn’t that make you feel better?

I’m from New Orleans and moved to Colorado after Katrina. I will forever miss the French Quarter. I’m glad it’s faring much better. However, the home I grew up in, Houma, is not faring quite as well. If it gets any worse, I may have a ton of family visiting under not such ideal conditions.

Life in the tropics. Hoping the storm dissipates quickly. I’ve sat out a few hurricanes on the Texas gulf coast. Shelter and days of supplies very necessary. But it’s home, and you rebuild. Maybe we need a mountain from Colorado and truck it to the bowl that New Orleans sits in and raise the city up about thirty five feet. At least above sea level. Hmm, but which mountain?
