Where I am, and where I’m not

If the earth had not shook, I would be in Vina del Mar, Chile right now. I would be tired, watching people play poker, and writing about it with all my heart. I’d be drinking horrible Cristal beer in a little club called Hollywood, and following some guy named Pablo through the dark streets in search of places that don’t close at 3am. That’s my life in Chile.

But the earth shook, and it shook hard. Because it shook; and because it continued to shake; and because the lights went out; and because even though Chile is a stable country, it’s still in South America, my trip was canceled. It was not my decision. The writer and adrenaline junkie in me wanted to go. I love Chile.

The father, son, and husband in me knew it was best I stayed home. I’m glad somebody else made the decision for me.

So, instead, I worked until 1am last night, and then I took my family to Falls Park for a 74-degree day of smiles. By any measure, this is better.

Indeed. Beautiful family! Glad you enjoyed your 70’s day while we got several inches of snow here. Even the Spring Peepers are confused now.

Very nice, sir. While you so rarely seem to deem your life worthy of it, truly I am envious of you. Glad you’re north of the equator, too.
