Dos es uno

Dos

I’ll be honest. By the time the boy we call Dos came into the world, I’d forgotten a lot about what it took to be the parent of an infant or toddler.

I’d forgotten that going out to grab some tacos requires military-style mobilization and organization.

I’d forgotten that listening to Rage Against the Machine is only allowed a few hours out of the day.

I’d forgotten that some kids don’t sleep from 7:00pm to 7:00am every night.

I can’t take but 5% of the credit for making sure the kid lived through his first year. My wife did most of the heavy-lifting on this one. In any case, today marks one year of living with Dos.

Kids are funny. Dos’ personality is already proving to be very different from his brother’s. Dos is a pensive kid who always seems to be sizing up situations. He’s a mover who only likes toys he can throw and roll. He’s got a few basic words in his arsenal and looks like he could start walking any time. He falls a lot (generally in a way that leaves a mark) and has absolutely ridiculous hair. Both are fair proof he’s my son.

Happy birthday, kid. Let’s try to make it through the day without slapping the concrete.

Am sure he got cards from the anesthesiologist, hospital, and all those other fine folks that know his address from the bills they sent.

You know you just have to understand that folks that run around with a snake skin on a stick are well practiced skinners.

Have a good one Dos. Looking like you were worth the surcharge!
