June minutiae

So, what did I do in June?

I worked, I traveled (Peru and St. John), and I relaxed. Nothing more. It wasn’t a very heady month, which is pretty much what I needed it not to be.

Travel days:13

Movies watched: Sherlock Holmes; Edge of Darkness; Spartan; Crazy Heart; Duplicity; The Mist; Zombieland; Up in the Air; The Brothers Bloom

Documentaries watched: June 17, 1994

Books read:The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo; Medium Raw: A Bloody Valentine to the World of Food and People Who Cook

Best meal: Zozo’s at Gallows Point in St. John (Potato gnocchi with sweet corn, butter sauce, and lobster; followed by lobster tail topped with buttered lump crab on top of lemon artichoke cous cous, all sitting in a tomato brodo; followed by blueberry bread pudding)

Online poker: After a couple of months off the wagon, June saw me happily back on. As a result, I got a lot more accomplished.

Live poker hours: 18. Expect that number to be up in July. June had one great game, two bad ones, but still down for the year

Freelance work: Sold a piece this month, which isn’t great, but better than the last couple of months of blanks.

Exercise: (Crickets)

Personal grade for the month: B- . June was two weeks of hard work and two weeks of summer vacation. In less than 48 hours, I’ll be on a plane for a big work trip. I needed June to be exactly what it was.

I’ve recently been to Peru and St. John too. What’s the big deal about traveling around Indiana?

Curious to know about what you thought of some of those movies. I’m a huge fan of Spartan, but I’m a big fan of most of David Mamet’s movies. I thought Zombieland was very good as well. The Mist was just okay and Up in the Air was lame.

They’ve got The Brothers Bloom at the library and I’ve been tempted to borrow it, but just haven’t yet. Should I? We’ve got Sherlock Holmes coming from Netflix this week as well.

    And I really enjoyed June 17, 1994!

Liked Spartan, but not as much as other MAmt movies. Zombieland was hilarious. The Mist’s ending sort of ruined it for me (I’m a King devotee). My wife liked Up In the Air. I thought it had its moments (plus, as a frequent traveler, it struck me funny a few times), but wasn’t great. Sherlock Holmes was more entertaining than I thought it would be. The Brothers Bloom got a B+ from me. Clever little film. Not perfect, but worth watching.

I love these posts. Simple, yet very informative. And I’d imagine it’s far more useful for you than your readers.

Ummm, B-? I think you’re being a little easy on yourself in light of that exercise result… I goad because I care.

BJ–Yeah. I absolutely hate putting them up, but I promised myself–bad or good–I would, if only as evidence to myself that I should be doing better.

and Skip…yeah, you couldn’t be more right.
