Helping where you can
What you see on the left is about 1/3 of what it takes to make a meal for 20 people. One of our neighbors is going through a really horrible thing right now. I can’t even imagine it. Don’t want to think about it. Regardless, I’ve been heartened by the support our neighborhood has provided for this family.
Bands of people have come together to help this family out. The family in need has spent most of its time in this big neighborhood making sure everybody else is taken care of. My wife and kid know them. I don’t, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t heard what a great family they are and how much they have given of themselves.
My wife wanted to help out with the big volunteer effort, but being seven months pregnant, she wasn’t really fit for a lot of the hard labor involved. So, we’re doing what we do. We’re cooking. In this case, it’s dinner for the volunteer crew. It’s not much, and certainly not as much as everybody else is doing, but it’s something.
My wife and I spent a little time this morning talking about how spectacular the neighbors have been in helping out. Whether it’s religion, karma, or just being part of a community, it works.
A lot of times, people really suck. This happens to be one of those cases in which I’m impressed with how good people can be.
Really, it’s persons who sometimes suck. People are generally pretty good.
Oh, Dugs…If persons suck, and people are good, how do you rate pedants?
Pedants don’t literally suck. They metaphorically suck, if you accept a vernacular definition of “suck” which has, in reality, very little to do with the actual definition of the verb, “to suck.”
This is an important distinction to make.
Brad…
Tony and I would love to contribute to your efforts? Do you need any $$ for more food? Can we bring something else for the meal tonight? Let us know.
Hope all is well!

You and the family are terrific for helping. God bless you!
I wouldn’t have heard my daughter’s sixth plea to leave her room last night if it wasn’t for friends helping friends.
And even though I’ve done plenty of charity work in the past, I’ll be continuing to pay it forward.
This is amazing. You all deserve a big round of applause. 🙂
