October minutiae
Only two more months of posting this ridiculous drivel.
October was a month that I pegged to achieve one of the goals I set a year ago. It’s something thousands of people could do, but I had not.
Exercise: In all, I put in more than 30 miles of running this month. All of it was geared toward running the Spinx Run Fest 5k from start to finish. I did it on Saturday in 27:36 (more on that in an upcoming post).
Books read:Freedom: A novel (should be required reading for anyone aged 30-65).
Documentaries watched: None. Seriously.
Movies watched: None. Seriously.
Freelance writing: The only non-poker writing I did this month was my little Halloween story, Walking Gray. Also received another rejection letter on a different piece. So, that was fun.
Travel days: 3
Poker Once again, I barely played this month. I put in one six-hour session for a small loss.
Rounds of disc golf: 5
Best meal of the month: I don’t like to brag, but I made a corn chowder for Halloween that made me fall in love with myself.
Picture of the month:
Awwww, how adorable! The puppy, not your corn chowder.
Have you read the Frank Bascombe series by Richard Ford? (“The Sportswriter”, “Independence Day” and “Lay of the Land”) I finished “The Sportswriter” a while ago and am just about finished with “Independence Day”. I’d say it has a somewhat Harry Angstrom / John Updike feel. If you care about award pedigree, “Independence Day” won the Pulitzer and the PEN/Faulkner.
“Freedom” is next on my reading list. I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Do you think God makes puppies that cute so we forgive them the biting, the pooping, the chewing, and the whining at unfortunate hours of the morning?
