Recommendations d’Otis

From time to time, I like to throw out a few recommendations. It’s not that I have particularly discerning tastes. I’m actually a pretty average guy with pretty average likes and dislikes. I think that qualifies me in the “try this out” area. Here are a few things I’ve tried recently that I think will tickle your fun parts.

Orville Redenbacher’s Natural Popcorn–My neighbor sent over a couple of single size portions of the new product from ol’ Orville. I ended up with the “salt and cracked black pepper” flavor. I’m no expert on popcorn, but that stuff was good. What’s more, if the official product actually comes in single serving sizes (about half the size of a regular bag), I will concede that man’s ability to understand his species’ needs is much higher than I thought. For more on the product, click HERE.

WordPress–This is rather specific to my fellow bloggers, but still worth noting. I’m really late to the game on this one. I spent a long time with Blogger before switching over to WordPress. I’ve also recently had quite a bit of difficulty on another blog (one that actually makes good money) with Movable Type. WordPress is easy, versatile, and full of so many little toys that I can’t tell you how much fun I’m having with widgets and plug-ins. If you are a blogger and not on WordPress, you are really missing out. If you converted long ago and have some recommendations on plug-ins and such, drop me a line.

The Wood Brothers–These guys (Chris Wood from Medeski, Martin, and Wood with his brother Oliver) have been around for a while. Pauly introduced me to them back in 2006. I just saw them live for the first time at Langerado and it confirmed everything I believed. They are starting to tour again in support of their new album “Loaded” (available April 1). The acoustic blues/folk duo will be on the West Coast run, starting in Vancouver, heading down to Portland, then further south to San Francisco and L.A. Oh, and to my Colorado friends, they will be playing in Denver and Boulder at the end of April. Some of their more folksy stuff is available on their MySpace site. Check out the Wood Brothers official web site for some more streaming songs at the bottom (Atlas is one of my favorites).
